WOODY started with my daughter.
She was having a rough time at school with a group of mean girls. I wanted her to know she could talk to me, but I also knew that sitting her down and asking what was wrong wasn't always going to work. So we started passing a journal back and forth.
We wrote notes to each other. I tried to encourage her. We drew in it. Somewhere in those pages, we started drawing letters together. Those letters became an alphabet, and that alphabet became WOODY.
At the time, I wasn't trying to design a product or start a font business. I was a father trying to stay connected to his daughter. The typeface came out of that.
What began in a journal eventually became a working font, finished one character at a time with help from a team that completed the family.
WOODY is a typeface. But for me, it will always be a record of something my daughter and I made together during a hard year.
